Yes! Yes, I know but this is the last [[question]].Where are you hunting for unearthly spirits, those dreaded Yokai, this night, [[mighty excorcist|exit 1]]?

You kept your [[eyes peeled wide|encounter]].You treaded through the maze of trees, careful not to step on branches or patches of dry leaves. A light breeze swayed the low-lying fog that creeped along the forest floor, making the [[forest trail]] near invisible to you despite the light of the lantern that dangles in your left hand.

[[start to panic again|stayed]]It began to emerge from the wall of deadly miasma, it's appearance out of place this cold winter night. A Daija is a snake spirit that is worshipped by humans as a snake deity that controls the rain and is offered sacrifices to make it rain during droughts. It is not neccearily seen as either an evil or holy spirit.
The most famous of the Daiji's was [[Uwabami]]Soon enough, Uwabami decided to go meet Kuro hime's father, Takanashi Masamori and lord of Shinano province.
<img src="https://i.pinimg.com/564x/45/dd/e3/45dde36901ac6a19a43cf2ce084d6a92--nijo-castle-throne-room.jpg">
Uwabami introduced himself, revealing his true nature as a Daiji to Lord Takanashi and Kuro hime, and asked for her hand in marriage.
Upon hearing Uwabami's request, Lord Takanashi replied “If you can keep up with me on horseback and complete seven laps around my castle, I will give you my daughter.” And Uwabami [[agreed readily]].
But the test Lord Takanashi proposed was all a lie, he never intended to let his daughter marry a snake. So, he secretly placed swords on the racing grounds where the test would take place.
The race was held the next day and Uwabami fell for the Lord's trap, cutting his body as he raced. But he didn't give in! He loved Kuro hime with all his being and upon finishing the seventh lap, Uwabami collapsed, near death. Lord Takanashi and his retainers mocked the fallen Uwabami and left him to [[die]], returning to their castle to feast in celebration of their immoral victory.
<img src="https://i1.sndcdn.com/avatars-000311217190-711q6c-t500x500.jpg">But Uwabami, being a very strong spirit, did not die and upon recovering, he realized Lord Takanashi had laid the trap for him out of rejection of him being a snake spirit. In his anger at the unjust he had suffered, he summoned a great storm, causing Onuma Lake to swell in size and flood everything in the surrounding area. The flood swept up the surrounding villages, layed waste to the fields, and took many lives.

Distraught by her lover's actions, Kuro hime sought to stop the destruction and bloodshed but knew of only [[one way]] to reach Uwabami who was mad with rage.
<img src="https://www.rcemlearning.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/references/drowning/drowning.jpg">
Kuro hime threw herself into the flooded lake and when Uwabami realized this, he ceased the storms. But it was too late as his lover had left the mortal plane, even her dead spirit had been washed away by the torrential flood.
Uwabami grieved, believing Kuro hime too had rejected him after seeing his monstrous abilities and he retreated into the lake, never seen or heard from again.
Though people who venture too close to the lake often go missing, for the [[lamenting serpent]] lashes out at all in order to prevent himself from being 'rejected' once again.
The light glinted off his viridescent scales, patterned with symmetrical dots that undualted with each movement. Uwabami's eyes which were vertical slits, suspended in an amber that burned brightly with intense emotion,wavered with anguish and trepidation. He began to hiss, impatient for your answer, “Well? Sssspeak! I ssshall hear your answer!”

"What do you mean plucky little mortal?" he asked, a tinge of curiosity creeping into his hissed words even as his eyes narrow in suspicion.
"A spirit came to me, beseeaching me to help you who grieves from the loss and rejection of many centuries ago. They wished to speak to you about the matter that caused you to turn into a yokai but were too weak to leave the area they had been bound to upon their death. So they came and asked me to perform a ghsot summoning at this lake so they could speak to you."
"Who? What ssspirit would know anything of that matter?! [[Summon]] them now! I ssshall sssquasssh that upssstart who triesss to disssturb my ressst!" You perform the summoning ritual swiftly and the paper doll's glow intensifies and begins to morph into the form of a [[beautiful maiden]] dressed in the white garb of a deceased human spirit.

The maiden, no, Kuro hime smiles gently with much sssorrow in her eyes as she gazes at him. "Oh my love, I am so sorry for all that had transpiried and that it took so long to come and right my wrongs."
Uwabami's enourmous form slithers forward as he begins to speak, "Kuro... why?! Why did you throw yourssself into the flood?! Was I ssso fearful that you wissshed to flee from me that much? Tears begin to fall from Kuro hime's face and she abruptly fell to her knees before Uwabami. "No! You are wrong my love! I did not know my father had set you up! I tried to call out to you but my voice was not enough to bring you back to your senses... I thought! I thought it was the only way to get the bloodshed to stop! Or that my spirit would become bound to that place?! "Kuro...." Uwabami whispered tenderly. His scales began to glow as he morphed his appearance into that of a young man, "Is this true? You, you never rejected me? You aren't scared of my powers? My appearance? You don't hate me for... for killing so many people?" his voice wavered like the visage of a moon in a rippling lake.
"NO! I love you! No matter what you are or what you look like, I will always love you! I could never fear you or hate you for you are what makes me wish to continue to exist! The reason my heart beat as a human and the reason I can stay a spirit in this plane! That will never change." She yelled, rejecting his notion that she would ever reject him.

[[reply 2]] You recall what you teacher had taught you about this particular type of yokai, the [[Jorogumo|greeting]].
They are a type of spider yokai that have the power to manipulate threads and spin illusions. Using these powers, they take on the form of beautiful maidens so as to lure unsuspecting innocents into their webs where they keep them encased in cocoons, as though to preserve their prey like they were no more than collectable dolls.

You crouch down next to the pitiful spider. “I understand your wish to not be alone. That is a fear all people must deal with but it does not excuse the fact that you have caused many innocents to suffer. Those people you trapped had families, people who loved them and feared for their safety just as much as you feared being alone.”
The spider sniffled “I know… but… what else was I supposed to do? Let them go and be left alone? Besides, even if I stop now what will that solve? I have sinned and become an evil spirit…How am I supposed to [[atone]] when I continue to cause suffering due to my inability to get over my fear of being alone, my monophobia?”
You pull out a shikigami talisman and hold it out before the spider.
<img src="https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/modao-zushi/images/4/4f/Talismans_%28donghua%29.png/revision/latest?cb=20200809121533" width="500" height="300">
“How about this, become my servant and help me stop other yokai from committing evil. You will be able to leave this cave and be with me, which means you won’t be alone, and you will atone by preventing others like you from causing harm unto others.” You suggest.
The spider spirit looks up at you hopefully, “Will that really help me atone?” her voice no more than a whisper asks.
You reply, voice full of honesty, “That I do not know and can only be answered by you. However, nothing will change if you do not try.”
The spider crawls onto the talisman and agrees to serve you as a familiar and it’s spirit form [[dissolves]] into the talisman. After the spirit settles into the talisman, you begin the arduous task of freeing those who are trapped in the cocoon. Some were merely comatose, trapped in an illusion where as others had passed on, having been trapped too long.
You held a funeral the next day for those unfortunate souls, the spider spirit watching on from inside the talisman stored in the pocket of your ceremonial robes. She prays their poor souls do not forgive her so that she may properly atone, even while a feeling of contentment from the hope of a [[future|ending]] in which she is no longer alone spreads throughout her being.
